After initial momentum, the possibility of a BJP-Telugu Desam Party (TDP) alliance in Andhra Pradesh seems to be dwindling. The BJP's interest has shifted towards endorsing the Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSR Congress Party (YSRCP). Sources within the BJP reveal that the decision on a potential alliance or electoral understanding with the TDP will be made after a thorough assessment of the political landscape.

Naidu, who is currently in Delhi, is unlikely to meet any BJP leaders, unlike in June when discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President J P Nadda fueled speculations about a possible alliance ahead of the upcoming elections, including Lok Sabha and Assembly polls in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Recently, Naidu, along with his party members, met Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar to express concerns about the alleged inclusion of a substantial number of bogus voters in Andhra Pradesh's electoral rolls.

While Naidu had been awaiting a positive response from the BJP leadership, the party seems to have taken stock of the prevailing political dynamics in the state. Sources indicate that the BJP has assessed the political situation and is inclined to nurture its relationship with the YSRCP, given its projected strength as a dominant electoral force in the state with 25 Lok Sabha seats. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the YSRCP secured 22 out of 25 constituencies.

The BJP's reconsideration can be attributed to the YSRCP's advantageous electoral position. The government's well-received welfare schemes have boosted the party's popularity, while the TDP has struggled to consolidate anti-government sentiment over the past four and a half years. Chief Minister Reddy recently announced the disbursement of Rs 216.34 crore to 2,62,169 beneficiaries for various welfare programs, underlining his commitment to inclusive governance. A significant development is the launch of the "Jagananna Suraksha Programme," replacing his father's initials in scheme branding, a move expected to bolster his electoral standing.

The YSRCP's resilient electoral standing has prompted the BJP to reconsider its interactions with the TDP, which has been eager to rejoin the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Despite not formally joining the NDA, Reddy has supported the Narendra Modi-led government during crucial junctures. The YSRCP's stance during the Monsoon Session, opposing the Congress' no-confidence motion and voting in favor of the National Capital Territory (NCT) Amendment Bill, underscores its pragmatic approach to national politics. The passage of the Bill, seen by the Opposition as a challenge to federalism, further highlights the YSRCP's strategic alignment with the BJP-led government.
